Diablo View Neighborhood Committee

Committee Chair: Bob Ganch

Vision Statement:  Our goal is to encourage and foster an environment whereby each resident of our neighborhood takes pride and ownership of our community, and to actively participate in the upkeep of our shared resources by simply "adopting" a certain area within Diablo View.

Volunteer's responsibility:  Adopting an area simply means reporting any problems within that area to the HOA promptly, and to also clean-up debris during a routine walk of the adopted area at an interval that fits the volunteer's schedule - whether it be once a day or twice a month, or somewhere in between. The volunteer decides upon the interpretation of "clean-up debris".

This committee is not about rules and regulations but about residents eager to keep Diablo View one of the most desirable neighborhoods to live in. There are no dotted lines to sign your name on, no mandated meetings, and no out-of-your-pocket expenses... just a few minutes of your time every now and then at your convenience. Those of us who have stepped forward:

Volunteers are needed to claim unlisted areas such as the other islands, the Tot Lot hill, upper Sweetwater Drive, etc. We also need overlap in the larger areas such as the Open Space, Muir Road, etc. Why do we need overlap? It makes the task of keeping our community clean easier for each and every resident! So please, grab your walking stick, grab your dog, grab your hat, grab the kids, whatever your routine may be, and pick an area today! For more information or to volunteer, please call Bob Ganch at 335-9300 or drop by 2222 Dry Creek Court.

Owl box on upper hill. Owl Boxes: An owl nesting box has been installed in the open space area on top of the hill closest to Hwy 4. Our intent is to reduce the need for harmful pesticides by encouraging natural predators and alternative methods of sustainable pest management. It is important that all members of the Diablo View Homeowners Association (and all guests) not disturb the new box to encourage the nesting of owls. Please note that all native birds are protected by Federal Law, especially when nesting. Any disturbance is a Federal offense and we strongly encourage that this information be passed on to all residents, including children. We also ask cooperation in protecting any owls from poisoning by refraining from the use of rodenticides especially on nearby properties closest to the shared open space. The Board would like to thank Kathy Minard for presenting the idea and for her continued cooperation on the project which will include cleaning the nesting box and monitoring the owl activity.

Neighborhood Watch Report:A couple of years ago, burglars stole a car and removed numerous valuable items, including tools, from a garage in the upper area of our subdivision. The homeowner inadvertently left the garage door open overnight and discovered the theft the following morning. Diablo View is a very safe neighborhood, but we are not immune from opportunistic crimes. Be sure to keep your garage doors and gates closed as much as possible so criminals are not attracted to your property.

Community Emergency Response Team:The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and first aid. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community. Diablo View residents are encouraged to obtain the CERT training offered through the Martinez CERT program.
